The Edge Comedy Clubpress release

Edge Comedy is opening up a full time comedy club at The Chicago Center for the Performing Arts, 777 N. Green St.Chicago, in the Sevens Cabaret when Comedy Sportz ends their run at the end of August 2007.

The name of the club will be The Edge Comedy Club the official launch grand opening show will be on the CCPA mainstage Saturday August 25th at
8:30pm. This show will feature an array of solid Chicago stand-ups both at the feature and headliner level that will be scheduled to appear at the club.

Just like The Edge Comedy mission statement, this club will always be for comics, by comics with one goal in mind; give stage time to the funniest people who deserve it. This club will mostly showcase comics deemed too "racy" or "controversial" by mainstream clubs and bookers.

Weekly programming will begin in the newly renovated 110 seat Sevens Cabaret starting September 6th. In addition to the 8:30 Wednesday night open mic already in progress, there will be an 8:30 Thursday night progressive comedy competition where a $500 prize will be given the last Thursday of each month, and 8:30 Friday and 8:30 Saturday nights will be full scale stand-up comedy showcases with a host, feature, headliner format.

On Wednesdays at 6:30, I will continue to run my Edge Comedy Boot Camp for comics that want to reach the next level, the next grad show for students is at Sevens on September 1st at 8:30pm. The response from the first run of classes was overwhelming (you can read the testimonials on under the Boot Camp page).

There are also mainstage shows Edge Comedy is bringing to the CCPA as part of the club programming.

Thursday October 18th at 8:30pm The Blue Stater Comedy Tour will be in the mainstage, hosted by Prescott Tolk (Premium Blend), with Dave Odd (NBC, ABC), Tom Simmons (Comedy Central), and Steve Hofstetter (XM radio show host). This show was especially designed by Dave Odd and Tom Simmons as a way to showcase left leaning material in a very touchy right leaning industry (at least out there in the clubs on the road and rural one nighters). Comedy from a group of guys that are getting tired of being dropped from rosters for doing jokes about not hating gay people and presenting global warming as fact. We're calling it The Blue Collar Tour for people who can read.

So here is the full schedule to recap.

Wednesdays (currently) 8:30 Big Fancy Open Mic (sign up at 8)

Thursdays 8:30 (starting Sept 6th) Comedy Contest

Fridays and Saturday 8:30 (starting Sept 7th and 8th) Comedy Showcase

Saturday August 25th 8:30pm, Edge Comedy Club Grand Opening

Thursday October 18th 8:30pm, The Blue Staters Comedy Tour.
